i'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. as richard ashcroft said in alone with everybody: "i'm on fire / and full of love and new desire."
a-slice and i met up for the second consecutive night in our new venue - ford chapel in schoffler hall. last night, with dr. ken wetstein's blessing, i packed up the "studio" and carried it from the offie to the chapel. it now sits right behind our piano. that's right, our piano. no more casio keyboard riffs.
which reminds me, we also upgraded the guitar. gone are the days of playing on alex's old strummer. kyle renick gave us his bro's hand-me-down, and it's a thing of beauty.
at any rate, why was tonight so special? well, we essentially played our first show. from 9 until around 11 alex and i were having what was arguably our best session ever, as he puts it: "vomitting" ideas and music...the way the creative process should be. we were especially excited about the development of a song we've tentatively called "sweet honey" (yes, we know, stupid). we already had the chorus in order, but we finally have chords and melody (no lyrics yet) for a verse.
the chorus now officially goes:
and i swear you
you've changed me
i've never been so free in love and happy
and i just want
to let you know...
that night i
met you while
talking at the bar all night
i knew then
that something in this world went right
anyway, after wrapping up a great session we decided to call the guys living in the ga house to come check things out. sure enough, awhile later, in comes j-brew, t-heil and m-sanko. we played a four or five song set for them (only the songs we feel comfortable enough to play) and then just hung out for awhile afterwards. we ended up ditching the chapel around midnight. it was such a great time and has my mind racing with ideas and possibilities in terms of what the future might hold.
alex just ordered us a real mic tonight and his cousin is apparently going to rearrange my desktop so that we can run our newly-purchased interface. when all of that happens we figure it will take a month max to make an album. we're planning to be able to put something in our friends and families hands here in about five-to-six weeks, and we're very excited about it. ken wetstein might even make a guest appearance on guitar...stay tuned.
we'll post rough drafts of new songs soon if i have any say. i'm really anxious for people to hear this stuff. we're proud of the majority of what we've been working on lately. admittedly, there is some serious junk as well, but we stand by the better stuff.
again, i can't emphasize enough how great it is to get out of the office. the chapel is the perfect venue - not only to practice, but to hold potential shows. hopefully we'll get the opportunity to host some get-together's there this summer.
...this just got interesting.
